US MIDDAY: copper rises

Published Updated

Copper ended up for a third straight session on Monday, bouncing from overnight losses with a recovering euro, but concerns about slowing global economic growth left the door open for further downside pressure. Copper's positive close bucked a generally weaker tone in the other base metals markets, which saw aluminium end down below its 100-day moving average and tin touch its lowest level since late January.
In New York, the COMEX July contract eked out a 0.70-cent gain to settle at $3.9905 per lb. Volumes slowed to just over 32,800 lots traded in New York, down more than 35 percent from the 30-day norm, according to Thomson Reuters preliminary data.
