The Independent Commission appointed through a bipartisan consensus should thoroughly investigate the causes of operation, the sanctuaries and hide out created by Osama Bin Laden, al Qaeda and the allied terrorist networks.
This was according to the resolution passed after the seminar on Prospects and Pitfalls of Post-Osama Pak US - Friendship organised by South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA).
Daniel Markey former State Department policy planning staff member was the keynote speaker but his lecture was cancelled. The seminar was addressed by General Secretary SAFMA, Imtiaz Alam, Political Analyst Shahfqat Mahmood and senior journalists Khalid Ahmed and Jugnoo Mohsin. The commission will propose short and long-term policies and measures to make Pakistan a truly democratic, independent, prosperous and strong country.
The commission must consider all aspects of Pakistan's current predicaments while it should critically re-evaluate Pakistan's foreign and security policies, relations with Afghanistan, which is based on the theory of strategic depth and relations with India, which is based on India centrism. The commission will also re-evaluate relations with other world, civil military relations, correlation of economic sustainability and human security with military security. Pak-US relations needed to be clearly defined on long-term basis. The relations should be based on mutual benefit of both sides without providing room to the US for any unilateral action, nor allowing any sanctuary to be operated from Pakistani soil.
The resolution demanded that national security policy should be defined by the parliament who should have full control over the budget and command structures of the armed forces and intelligence agencies who must completely submit to the elected government in accordance with their constitutional obligations.
All non-state extremist actors and terrorist groups, their patterns, protectors, financiers and their handlers must be brought to book, who undermine the writ of the state and use Pakistan's territory to further their nefarious designs against the people of Pakistan and other countries while undermining Pakistan's internal sovereignty and bringing it into conflict with its neighbours and international community.
