Trade volume remains low; some items' prices fluctuate frequently in line with global trend

Thin trading was marked in the commodity wholesale markets during the week as rising trend was frequent in items like wheat, gur, cotton cakes in some case following world during the week ended on May 14, 2011.
On the opening day wheat with old bardana inched up despite comfortable supplies. It gained Rs 5 to Rs 2385 and Rs 2400, Irri 6 Sindh scaled higher by Rs 25 to Rs 3500, while better type gained Rs 50 to Rs 3550, cotton seed oilcakes with bag in Sindh inferior type rose by Rs 5 to Rs 1340, while the better type was unchanged at Rs 2100 and Rs 2340.
On Tuesday wheat with old bardana and new as well rose by Rs 5 to Rs 2390 and Rs 2405, cottonseed oilcakes with bag in Sindh inferior type was unchanged at Rs 1340, while the better type lost Rs 10 to Rs 1390, rapeseed Nawabshah was quoted at Rs 2200, Mirpur low type rose by Rs 200 to Rs 2100, while better type appreciated by Rs 175 to Rs 2125 Bangladesh tea prices generally suffered downdraft.
On Wednesday, moong Burma lost Rs 250 to Rs 8250, masoor Canada was quoted at Rs 6800, masoor dal was quoted at Rs 7500, urad Burma quoted at Rs 3100, wheat old and new with bardana rose by Rs 20 to Rs 2400 and Rs 2415, gur low type stayed put at Rs 6500, while the other variety was up Rs 300 to Rs 7500, cottonseed oilcakes in Sindh with back low type shed by Rs 20 to Rs 1320, while the other type depicted no change at Rs 1400.
On Jodia Bazaar raw rubber from Ceylon (per lb) RSVP ended down by Rs 50 to Rs 230, pale crape TPC 3 surged by Rs 40 to Rs 270, Latex Merrytex (28-kg) ended down by Rs 50 to Rs 1400, Semnan Tex shed Rs 50 to Rs 1400 and Thai (GT) lost Rs 50 to Rs 1400.
On Thursday wheat old and new with bardana was quoted at Rs 2410-2415 and Rs 2425- 2430. Bajra low quality rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2550, while the other type was quoted at Rs 2900; Irri 6 Sindh low type was unchanged, while the other variety rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1350. Cottonseed oilcakes with bag in Sindh low type lost Rs 20 to Rs 1300, while the other quality lost Rs 50 to Rs 1350.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items showed rising trend in low buying: (per 40-kg) white pepper rose by Rs 100 to Rs 32,100, Cinnamon leaves rose by Rs 200 to Rs 5600 and sago was quoted at Rs 3200.
On Friday rates were firm, as buyers were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday rice prices were higher, as rice exporters showed fresh interest in purchasing. Irri-6 Sindh low type was up by Rs 75 to Rs 3550 and superior type followed the same pattern, rising Rs 50 to Rs 3600. Wheat old Bardan was quoted at Rs 2425 and new variety of same item registered at Rs 2440. Khandsari registered at Rs 7000-7400. Grams Australia low type was unchanged at Rs 4400, while good type shed Rs 50 to Rs 4600. Cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh low quality did not move any side at Rs 1300 and better type gained Rs 10 to Rs 1360.
On Jodia Bazaar plastic moulding compounds ended down. The changes were: PLASTIC MOULDING COMPOUNDS (Per lb): HDPE (FILM): Saudia 952 edged lower by Rs 1.50 to 72.50, and TR144 was quoted at Rs 72.10. HDPE (INJECTION): Sabic 200056 went down by Rs 3 to Rs 80 and Iran moved downward by Rs 2.50 to Rs 77.50. HDPE (BLOW): Marlex Singapore went down by Rs 4 to Rs 75 and Iran finished lower by Rs 2.50 to Rs 71.50. LDPE: 374 edged downward by Rs 1.75 to Rs 92.75. LLDPE: W118 moved lower by Rs 1.25 to Rs 72.75 and 7087 went down by Rs 2.50. POLYPROPYLENE (FILM): India closed downward by Rs 4 to Rs 93. POLYPROPYLENE (TAPE GRADE): India edged lower by Rs 2 to Rs 86.50 and Saudia moved down by Rs 2 to Rs 86.50. POLYPROPYLENE (INJECTION GRADE) Saudia went lower by Rs 2 to Rs 87.25 and India closed down by Rs 3 to Rs 88. COPOLY: Block edged lower by Rs 3 to Rs 90.
