In spite of the claims by the Islamabad police chiefs about nabbing 4,543 persons involved in street crimes in the capital, no decline was seen in the crimes rate. During the current week, people in Islamabad were deprived of 18 vehicles, 15 motorcycles and other valuables including gold ornaments, computers, laptops, mobile phones and other appliances.
Islamabad Police have claimed to have busted 15 gangs of dacoits, car lifters, drug pushers and other criminals and have arrested over 120 outlaws and 250 suspects, said the data Business Recorder have obtained from the Central Police office (CPO) and all 14 police stations of the capital. Islamabad Police have also claimed recovering of ten stolen vehicles, huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition and drugs and liquor from the detained outlaws.
Five brothels were also raided during the week in which 13 male and 10 female were arrested for their alleged involvement in prostitution. The main cause behind the rise in crime in the capital even after heavy deployment of police personnel is being attributed to unemployment and inflation along with poor planning, ineffective patrolling and main focus of police on security of important personalities.
125 incidents of street crime, highway robberies and theft were recorded in the capital during the week in which people were deprived of more than Rs 2.4 million, while police sources were of the view that mostly young people were found involved in street crimes, robberies and thefts, which is ample proof of frustration in youths.
As per data 18 vehicles were stolen from the capital during the week, that include three Toyota Corolla, two Baleno, one Cultus, one Khyber, four Mehran and one FX Suzuki, three Suzuki pick ups, two mini trucks and one Charade, besides 15 motorcycles were also stolen from different parts of the capital.
During the week police have recovered four Kalashnikov rifles, 18 30-bore pistols, one 9mm pistol, one Revolver, two 12-bore guns, two daggers and 580 bullets of different caliber. During the week Islamabad Police have recovered huge quantity of drugs and liquor that include 4.3kg heroin, 9.4kg charas, 510 bottles of liquor and 1,450 gram of opium. Islamabad Police registered 16 cases of cheating including cheque dishnour in which about Rs 118 million were involved.
