Solid waste disposal: 'Refused Derived Fuel' plant being set up

On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, a Refused Derived Fuel (RDF) plant is being set up under the arrangement of City District Government for scientific disposal of municipal solid waste, which would help in generating income besides saving precious foreign exchange of the country.
This was stated by District Co-ordination Officer, Naseem Sadiq while presiding over a pre-bid conference held here at his office committee room to discuss modalities of the project.
The DCO said that the RDF plant would be established on design, build, and finance and operation basis under public private partnership. It would be the first ever model project in Pakistan for recycling solid waste. He said that CDGF would sale solid waste to successful bidding firm for transforming it in a fuel being used in the cement industry. He further said that administrative support would be provided by government to concerned firms for successfully running the plant.
During the conference, participants were briefed about the solid waste management system of CDGF. It was informed that urban population of the city area of Faisalabad is 2.51 million and 1,206 tons solid waste is being generated daily whereas the capacity is available for collecting of 651 tons solid waste. Terms and conditions, technical and financial bid evaluation criteria for the project were also discussed besides reviewing other administrative aspects of the plan.
The DCO assured representatives of interested firms that their reservations and objections would be communicated to Punjab Steering Committee for consideration and suitable decision-making. The conference was attended by Chief Executive Officer, Infrastructure Project Development Facility, Ministry of Finance Adil Anwar, Transaction Advisors Punjab Urban Unit Dr Farrukh, Rana Nadim, Madam Sadiq, Senior Legal Advisor Asim Rauf, MD PHA Ashiq Dogar, EDO MS Chaudhry Liaqat, representatives of pre-qualified firms DG Cement, Maple Leaf, Habib Rafiq and other concerned officers.
