A writ petition has been filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking directions to the federal government to withdraw the powers of Supreme Commander of Armed Forces of Pakistan from President of Pakistan and grant the same to the Chief of Army Staff.
The petition was filed by chairman Tehreek-e-Inqilab Pakistan Rana Illumuddin Gazi advocate pleading that Pakistan army could not take prompt action to stop US attack in Abbotabad on May 2 because powers to make decisions for any such action vested with the president of Pakistan. He, therefore, prayed to the court to transfer the powers of Supreme Commander of armed forces to Chief of Army Staff immediately in the greater national interest.
