Advisory to cotton growers

Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised the cotton growers to schedule irrigation of their crop keeping in view the fertility of the land, sowing method and weather conditions. A spokesman of the department said here on Friday that first irrigation should be done after 30 to 35 days of sowing of cotton crop in lines while rest of the irrigation should made after a gap of 12 to 15 days.
While cotton sown on beds should be first irrigated after two to three days of sowing and then rest of the irrigation after a gap of 6 to 9 days. The spokesman also advised the growers to irrigate their crop before the symptoms of shortage of water appears in leaves or stems of the plants or any other symptom. It would save the crop from damage, the spokesman added. The spokesman further said that maintaining the distance between two plants sown in lines is also a must to get a good production as it helps better growth of the plant.
