Pakistan and the United States had struck a deal to kill Osama bin Laden some 10 years ago in the tenure of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, a private TV channel reported late Monday night quoting a British newspaper. The channel said that the secret deal permitted a US operation to capture Osama bin Laden, Aiman al Zawahri and the al Qaeda No 3 on the Pakistani soil.
The deal was struck between president Pervez Musharraf and former US president George Bush after bin Laden escaped US forces in the mountains of Tora Bora in 2001, according to serving and retired Pakistani and US officials, the channel said. However, Pervez Musharraf has denied media reports about any such deal, the channel added.
