President, Prime Minister, CoAS meet after US raid: parliament to initiate debate

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday held extensive consultations with the President, Chief of the Army Staff, the defence minister and the minister of state for foreign affairs on the situation arising from the Abbottabad operation resulting in the death of Osama bin Laden.
The situation was comprehensively reviewed in the perspective of Pakistan's national security and foreign policy. The prime minister will take the nation into confidence through the platform of the Parliament on Monday and looks forward to initiating full debate on the matter on the floor of the House.
The prime minister emphasized during the consultations that the sole criteria for formulating our stance is safeguarding of Pakistan's supreme national interest, by all means, by all state institutions, in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Pakistan, who above all value their dignity and honour.
BR staff reporter Naveed Butt from Islamabad adds: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Saturday met President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani amid growing calls in the country to hold those guilty of intelligence failure in the OBL episode. According to sources, the three agreed to take the Parliament into confidence over the US clandestine operation in Abbottabad codenamed 'Geronimo'. They also discussed US violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, its political fallout and the security challenges facing the country.
Sources revealed that they also discussed current and future relationship with the United States. The Chief of Army Staff also briefed the President and the Prime Minister about the discussions and decisions that were taken during the three-day corps commanders' conference that included the directive to probe the intelligence failure of the army and the spy agency, ISI. Sources said that the findings of this investigation would be given to the government, the military chief told the PM and the President. They also vowed to continue the war against terrorism.
Sources said that criticism against Pakistan's intelligence failure and inaction during operation 'Geronimo' also came under discussion. Criticism was however termed disappointing by the country's heads and army chief, who said the army was ready to fight the security challenges that Pakistan faces. A press release of the meeting stated that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Saturday. Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was also present in the meeting. The meeting took cognisance of the present situation in its totality. The prime minister also briefed the President about his visit to France.
