Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has advised mobile phone subscribers to visit Customer Service Centres of their concerned mobile operators to check if there is any discrepancy in their antecedents. The PTA sought subscribers' co-operation in streamlining SIM data to achieve target of 100 percent correct consumer detail.
In this regard, the Authority has also directed cellular mobile operators to take all possible measures for verification of post and prepaid mobile connections of their subscribers within the specified time period through "SIM information System 668".
The PTA introduced "SIM Information System 668" for verification and correction of mobile data. Through the service, subscriber can send his CNIC to 668 through SMS and in return would receive detail of total SIMs registered against his CNIC along-with the name of the mobile company. In case there is any discrepancy, the user would visit CSC along with original CNIC to get the data corrected. SIMs not corrected before May 17, 2011 would be blocked. This is part of PTA efforts to block all illegal SIMs and correct the data of mobile users.
Without the co-operation of mobile subscribers, benefits of the service can not be achieved at the desired level. PTA, during last three years has launched a number of campaigns through the print and electronic media for awareness of mobile users on the issue and is still engaged in such activities. During the third phase of the campaign, mobile subscribers have shown great interest in having their SIM data corrected through 668 and operators are getting encouraging response.-PR
