Chief Justice promises professional lawyers to be elevated to bench

Chief Justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has promised to fill vacancies of judges in the Lahore High Court (LHC) by elevating professional lawyers especially from Lahore. This was stated by Secretary Lahore High Court Bar Association Arshad Malik Awan in a statement issued here on Thursday. Awan said on bar's invitation the CJP has also agreed to visit the bar soon.
A delegation of LHCBA office bearers had called on the Justice Chaudhry in Islamabad to convey him lawyer's concern on the recommendation of Judicial Commission for elevation of session's judges to LHC after ignoring the lawyers. The bar leaders also requested the CJP to constitute a bench of SC at Lahore registry on permanent basis so that huge backlog of cases be reduced and justice be dispensed expeditiously.
The CJP keenly heard the suggestions of the bar representatives and assured them of materialising the same Awan added. LHCBA's president Asghar Ali Gill, vice president Mian Muhammad Jahangir, and finance secretary Mian Muhammad Azam were among the delegation.
