The Accountant General Punjab has admittedly clarified that the error of 15 percent surcharge on the Income Tax was occurred during payroll processing for the month of April 2011.
During a meeting with the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) whose delegation met him under the chairmanship of PPLA President Dr Zahid Ahmad Shaikh here on Wednesday, the Accountant General Punjab Jamil Ahmad Bhatti said that because of the error, over-deduction from salaries of education sector was inadvertently processed by the system.
He, however, said the system has now been rectified and difference of amount in all such cases has been immediately transferred to respective banks and individual bank accounts today. The error has occurred due to directions of newly introduced 15 percent Income Tax surcharge that had created a lot of confusion and concern among the employees of education sector.
However, computer system in AG Punjab timely detected the error and took corrective actions. He also briefed the PPLA delegation that remedial measures have been taken promptly and such government employees now should not worry regarding wrongly made deductions from salaries for the moth of April 2011.
