Alleged torture of PU employees: application for registration of FIR filed

Punjab University administration has filed an application for registration of an FIR with Muslim Town police station against the activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) and an expelled student for badly torturing and severely injuring on-duty university employees.
According to PU spokesman, in a high-level meeting with police officials, it was decided that such law-violators would be dealt with iron hands. Moreover, the administration is also considering other facts behind recent incidents at the varsity. The administration is very clear that such illegal activities would be dealt under the law. According to CCTV footage, Muhammad Akram and Muntazir Mehdi were performing their official duty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics when Tayyab and Faisal of Geology, Kamal Niazi of Chemical Engineering, Behram of Islamic Centre, Khizar of IER and Atif Gujjar an expelled student, attacked them with sticks and iron rods. The culprits started severely beating the employees and as a result, right hand wrist of Muhammad Akram fractured. The activists also reportedly snatched Rs 1,800 and identity cards of the employees.
Both the employees were rushed to Jinnah Hospital emergency ward where they were provided medial aid and medico-legal was also obtained. After the incident, the administration filed the application for lodging FIR with the police station demanding early action against the culprits for torturing the employees and interrupting official work.
