Islamabad Police have arrested five persons involved in car snatching and recovered three stolen vehicles from them, a police spokesman said here on Tuesday. Station House Officer (SHO) Shehzad Town Police Station Inspector Raja Tahir Hussain was on regular patrolling along with his team when they observed a car thief near Zia Masjid, trying to drive away a car (RIP-5643), the spokesman said.
The Police team succeeded in arresting him and recovered the car, while his other accomplice managed to escape from the scene. The nabbed person has been identified as Muhammad Sajid son of Tahir Khan resident of Parhoti village of Mardan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, he said, adding that a Police team has been constituted to ensure earliest arrest of escaped accomplice of car thief. SHO Bhara Kahu Inspector Rukhsar Mehdi along with other officers foiled a bid of highway robbery and nabbed four robbers who were involved in snatching vehicles at gunpoint.
The nabbed persons were identified as Muhammad Tanveer son of Muhammad Zafar resident of Abbottabad, Shehroz Khan s/o Asghar resident of Akorra Khattak, Sarfaraz resident of Sargodha and Azam resident of Pindi Bhattian. Police recovered one truck (RIC-1860) and Van (Karachi CN- 1795) from the detained robbers snatched from the jurisdiction of the police station.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani and SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan have appreciated the performance of the police teams who recovered the vehicles and apprehended car thieves and dacoits red handed. They also announced cash prize and commendation certificates for them and directed all police officials to maintain high vigilance at the inner and outer cordons of the city and ensure checking of suspected vehicles.
