Rs 208 billion spent on 286 projects under PSDP 2009-11, National Assembly told

A total of Rs 208 billion were utilised so far on 236 projects costing Rs 1689.0 billion out of the 540 projects approved in 2009 to current PSDP (2010-11). Federal Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said that the overall objective of implementation of the projects was socio-economic development of people of Pakistan in various sectors like energy, water resources, roads, railways, ports, physical planning & housing, education, health, governance, skills development etc.
In a written reply to a question in National on Monday, the Minister said that an amount of Rs 1481.0 billion (Rs 1689.0 billion less Rs 208.0 billion) is required in future to complete 236 projects budgeted in PSDP 2010-11 out of 540 projects. He said that total 540 projects costing Rs 2516 billion from January 1, 2009 to April 08, 2011 had been approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) and Central Development Working Party (CDWP).
In another written reply about Karachi Transportation Improvement Project, the Minister said that City District Government Karachi (CDGK) was presently conducting a study for Karachi Transportation Improvement Project under Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Grant-in-Aid.
He said that the PC-11 estimated at Rs 370.8 1 million was approved by CDWP on March 18, 2010. The study started in October 2010 and would be completed in June 2011, he added. He said that another JICA funded study, about the feasibility of priority corridors, would be started in July 2011. He said that as per recommendations of the above stated studies, proper PC-I of the project "Karachi Mass Transit" would be prepared.
