Swiss franc soars

Published Updated

The Swiss franc soared to a fresh peak against the dollar on Thursday as investors broadly shunned the greenback in favour of riskier assets. The Swiss franc soared to a fresh record of 0.8846 per dollar according to dealing platform EBS. It was trading just short of that level, up 0.4 percent compared to the New York close at 0.8851 at 0636 GMT.
Against the euro, the franc fell 0.2 percent to 1.2936 per euro. Bullion powered to a lifetime high for a fifth consecutive session on a sharply weaker dollar, and silver roared to its highest in more than three decades.
