Economic woes: KU vice chancellor asks KUBS students to play their role

Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui has urged the successful students of Karachi University Business School (KUBS) to play their role in brining the nation out of the present economic crisis. Speaking at the KUBS's event of annual launch of "Graduada Directory 2011" at a local hotel on Wednesday, he said, the present crisis which the country was facing could be solved, if the nation was equipped with better education.
Recalling his conversation with traders a few years ago, he said, he had pointed out to the businessmen community that the country's problem of trade deficit could be resolved with injection of capital to the economy but the nation's intellectual deficit could never be overcome.
The vice chancellor said the purpose behind setting up of a business school at KU was clear to produce highly qualified leadership to meet the global challenges fearlessly. He said the school was progressing fast and hoped that it would achieve its primary task soon. He said KU had undertaken a programme of capacity building for students to increase their knowledge and skills during their studies. He said KU would induct more qualified teachers in the faculty so that students could learn from their diverse experience.
The vice chancellor extended his full support to KUBS and its faculty members to invite international experts of the discipline to the school for educating the students with value-added modern skills and knowledge. He said that construction work in new building of the school at KU is well under way and new classes would begin shortly. He lauded faculty head, members, students and corporate heads, besides KCCI President Saeed Shafiq for their efforts in organising this event.
Delivering the welcome address, Chairman KUBS, Dr A. R. Zaki said KUBS was organising the event annually, publishing a Graduada Directory and hosting corporate dinner. He thanked the faculty members for organising the event successfully and also lauded the event sponsors for their key support to students in their academic sessions.
He pointed out that the school would organise some short courses by next month. He also announced the launch of the KUBS's web portal, saying it would help students get connected globally. Zaki said the portal was also providing research material for students. He said data at the portal was easily accessible. Dean Faculty, Professor Dr Abuzar Wajdi also appreciated the students for the launch of the directory and congratulated members of the faculty members and organising committee for holding the event.
He claimed that the school was a model institute of the university and its students were the role models for others. He said the school was providing education of international standard to its students. Wajdi also acknowledged the key support of Vice chancellor of KU to the business school, besides appreciating the corporate guests for assistance to the school.
President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Saeed Shafiq extended support to the students on behalf of businessmen community of the city, saying the chamber was aiming to enable the students to face global challenges easily. He informed the students that the country had suffered $50 billion losses from war on terror. Later, the KUBS Graduada Directory 2011 was launched, the Vice Chancellor of KU, Pro vice chancellor KU and Chairman KUBS were also present. The corporate heads, teachers and a large number of students attended the event.
