Sui Southern Gas Company would like to contradict any impression about difference of opinion between SSGC officials on any project of LNG import which was quoted in a news item "Dispute between 2 SSGC officials threatens LNG Mashal project" carried by Business Recorder on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources (MP&NR) and SSGC are taking all necessary actions on a fast track basis to meet the gas shortfall by expediting the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). In this regard, all options of LNG imports are being looked at.
BR staff reporter Zafar Bhutta adds: Managing Director (MD) Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) Dr Faiz Ullah Abbasi during a press conference held on March 12, 2011 announced that LNG Mashal Project had been shelved after replacing it with a new initiative of offshore option. According to my sources, the announcement came at that time due to differences between Mr Abbasi and Project director Naeem Sharafat. Both officials of SSGC have still differences over re-tendering of the project and I stand by my story.
