Talking to PTV, he said the nation should be united in confronting challenges of terrorism, extremism etc., showing strong resolve in deeds rather than claims. He said "in order to keep intact our democratic system we want opposition parties to continue playing their due role. "Today there is a dire need of unity amongst all segments of the nation. Pakistan is on the right path and we are trying our best to go to any length to stamp out terrorism from the country". Replying to a question he said Pakistan was playing vital role in the fight against terrorism."Nearly 30000 Pakistani innocent citizens have been killed so far in this war. We have given sacrifices of our 6000 jawans. It's been a prolonged fight which has been waged by this country almost single-handedly". He said Pakistan is important geopolitically and strategically and there could never be peace and dialogue for the reconciliation process in Afghanistan without the help of this Nation. Kaira said Pakistan wanted a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan as, if there is peace and prosperity in that country, peace could be ensured in Pakistan also. Replying to a question about the new rules of engagement he said, "we do not intend to sever our ties with anyone, we wish even today that if there is any mistrust-like situation , Pakistan's innocent people should not be killed. "We have to review our policies. Already there has been Ambassadors' conference. We want clarity". "Free for all" would no more be acceptable, he concluded.
