Police arrested four alleged target killers, who are reportedly involved in recent spate of targeted killings' incidents, from different area of the city on Monday. According to SP Malik Zafar Iqbal, three suspects on a motorbike were intercepted by the Khawja Ajmir Nagri police during patrolling.
Instead of surrendering, they offered resistance and tried to escape under the cover of indiscriminate gunshots. Police retaliated the fire and arrested an alleged target killer, Waqas alias Arman, while other managed to escape. He said the alleged target killer, who belonged to Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H), confessed during initial interrogation that he along with other accomplices targeted three MQM activists in Mehmoodabad and three others at Mominabad area after the killing of their party leader Akhter Hussain. He said that one of the absconded persons was identified as Salman while police recovered a 30 bore pistol from his possession.
In another incident, police arrested three alleged target killers after a brief encounter from Eidgh police remits. According to SP Chaudhry Aslam, some seven alleged target killers, riding three motorbikes, reached near Civil hospital to bump off a person namely Muhammad Ali. On being heard gunshots, police party rushed to the spot and intercepted the culprits but they tried to flee under the cover of firing.
He said that the police after a brief encounter arrested three accused; Idrees Baloch, Imran and Zahid while the others Sheraz Zaki, brother of Ghaffar Zaki, Razzaq Commando, Bilal and Shera, brother of Arshad Pappu managed to escape under the cover heavy gunshots. Sources said that the accused were intending to target an activist of MQM, Asif, who was going in a car (AHB-217). They added Asif received bullets' wounds in this shootout.
