Political activists among seven fall prey to targeted killings
Seven more people including activists of MQM, ANP, MQM-H and two cops fell prey to the ongoing spate of targeted killing in various parts of metropolis here on Saturday. According to details, Malik Ayub, 37, an activist of MQM, was gunned down while another, Warsi, sustained bullets wounds in the jurisdiction of Liaquatabad police station on Saturday evening.
Police said that unidentified armed men shot the victim when he was sitting at his paint shop. Resultantly, he died on the spot, while Warsi sustained injuries. The deceased and injured were moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Score of MQM workers rushed to the hospital. Police said the deceased, who was resident of New Karachi area, was member of MQM New Karachi sector.
An activist of Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi, Abdullah Ansari, was targeted by unknown assailants in Malir Tanki area within the limits of Khokhrapar police station. Police said that two other activists were missing, as they along with deceased were returning from MQM-H in Landhi. They said the victim used to run a shop in Lee Market area. No case was registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, an activist of Awami National Party was killed in Sherpao Colony in the limits of Quaidabad police station. The deceased, Najeeb Ahmed, son of Asad was a security guard of ANP leader Jamal Khan Afridi. The body was moved to his hometown Peshawar while police registered a case on complaint of Afridi against the unidentified attackers.
A youth was shot dead near Shah Faisal River in the limits of Sharafi Goth police station. The body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was identified as Imran, 23, son of Ameen, a resident of Korangi No 3. Police said that the motive behind the incident yet to be ascertained.
Another youth, who was identified as Ali Ahmed Baloch, was gunned down near Saturday Bazaar in the limits of Gulistan Jauhar. Police said the victim was the resident of Own Apartment Gulistan Jauhar and recently shifted to Gulistan Jauhar from Lyari. They said that personal enmity might be behind his killing. An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was targeted while other injured in block Z within the limits of Gulshan Maymar police station. The victim, Azam Jakhrani, 40, was hit by six bullets when he was standing outside his relative house located. Resultantly he received six bullets while his neighbour Tariq also sustained bullets wounds.
Police shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities where Azam succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police said the victim, who was posted in Jacobabad Sindh, had come to Karachi to meet his relatives and added that he hailed from Jakhrani tribe. Another cop of Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) was gunned down when he resisted a robbery bid near Sea View Beach in the limits of Darakhshan police station.
Two unknown armed robbers approached the victim and tried to snatch jewellery from his wife. The victim, Asif, 30, son of Abdul Jabbar, who went to Sea View along with his wife and son, offered resistance. Resultantly, he was shot to dead by the dacoits.
Police said the deceased, who was the resident of Model Colony Malir, was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem. Police further said the victim, who was deployed at Hassan Square, was the father of one. No case was registered till filing of this report.
