Students of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad took out a rally to register their protest against the devolution of Higher Education Commission to the provinces. The rally started from administration block and concluded at Iqbal Auditorium. The protestors were holding placards and chanting slogans, demanding the government to keep HEC as a federal entity.
Meanwhile, vice chancellors from 130 universities at a meeting sought reversal of the decision and demanded President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minster Yousaf Raza Gilani not to devolve HEC. They said that the decision would badly affect the quality of education. They urged the government to keep HEC intact, terming the Commission a beacon of hope to a bright future of Pakistan. They observed that the commendable job being done on the part of HEC to promote education in the length and breadth of the country has established its international reputation.
