Gilani talks to Afridi, expresses solidarity: government takes steps to prevent match fixing, says Malik

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday talked to the Captain of Pakistan Cricket team Shahid Afridi over telephone and wished the best of luck to the national cricket team in the ICC World Cup semi-final, to be held in Mohali, India on March 30.
The Prime Minister conveyed the sentiments and prayers of the whole nation for the success of the team. He said that irrespective of the result of the match the team should demonstrate the best of sportsmanship and dedication to contest. The Prime Minister said that while accepting the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister to witness the match, it was in his heart to be present on the occasion to express solidarity with the players of the Pakistan Cricket Team.
Shahid Afridi assured the Prime Minister that each member of the Pakistan Cricket Team would put in his best performance for a favourable result. Earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday said the government has taken all measures to prevent match-fixing.
Talking to media at the provincial office of Crisis Management Cell in Karachi, he said that it was the endeavour of the government not to repeat the case that happened in London involving several Pakistani players. "All the phone calls of the players are being kept under observation in this regard," he added. He also welcomed the measures taken by the Indian Government for security during the semi-final to be played by the two countries on Wednesday.
