The Indian rupee fell on Monday, snapping a six-day rising streak, tripped by weakness in the euro and month-end dollar demand from importers, but gains in local shares limited the slide. The partially convertible rupee ended at 44.83/84 per dollar, 0.4 percent weaker from its 44.66/67 close on Friday, when it had risen to 44.615, its highest since January 4.
It moved in 44.72-44.90 band intraday. The one-month onshore forward premium was at 30.00 points, down from previous close of 31.25 points, the three-month premium held steady at 85.50 and the one-year was at 301.00 points from 299.25. The one-month offshore non-deliverable forward contracts were quoted at 45.09, weaker than the onshore spot rate.
