35 teachers detained: police halt SPLA's march to chief minister House

Karachi police once again thwarted the bid of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) to march towards the Chief Minister House here Thursday and detained about 35 teachers. SPLA also announced to observe province-wise black day on Friday to condemn the police action.
As per details, the SPLA held a general body meeting at the DJ College and later observed sit-in outside DJ Science College in favour of their demands including time-scale for college teachers and other issues. They tried to march towards the CM house, but heavy contingents of police stopped their bid and detained some 35 protesting teachers. Irritated SPLA condemned the police action and announced observing a 'black day' in all government-run colleges in Sindh province on Friday.
Noted social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi also joined the sit-in of college teachers as a token of sympathy and support. He asked the government to accept the just demands of teachers. He said the government should step down if it is unable even to solve the problems of its teachers.
Talking to PPI, General Secretary SPLA Karachi region Professor Iftikhar Mohammed Azmi said that police arrested 35 college teachers including SPLA Central President Professor Athar Hussain Mirza, General Secretary Professor Siddique Unnar and President Karachi region Muzafar Ali Rizvi. He demanded of the government to release the detained teachers with immediate effect and accept the demands of teachers including their promotions and time-scale.
