Pay-protection for DGSW officers approved

Published Updated

President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday approved pay protection to the officers of Directorate General of Social Welfare (DGSW). The matter was lingering for the last many years as nearly 200 officers were demanding protection of their pay to safeguard their increment, earned prior to their regular employment.
The spokesperson said that the officers were engaged in BPS 16 to BPS 19 on ad hoc basis during 1986-90 at Directorate General of Special Education. By November 2005, all these officers became regular employees of the directorate through Federal Public Service Commission, but Section 17 of Civil Servants Act 1973 and relevant rules did not permit protection of pay of a contract employee on achieving regular appointment against the same post.
The president, on a summary sent by the Prime Minister, exercised his power under Section 23 of Civil Servants Act, 1973 and approved pay protection of the officers overriding the bar under Section 17 of the Civil Servants Act 1973 for pay protection.-PR
