Issuance of utility bills by KW&SB despite court orders criticised
The issuance of utility bills despite court orders by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has been bitterly criticised by Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami, Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Mahenti.
This not only amounted to torturing people but it is also an unlawful act, he said adding that the Managing Director of KWSB to cover up his inefficiency has announced that people could face difficulties in getting water from May or June this year because it is faced with severe financial problems.
Mahenti in a statement said that financial difficulties have been purposely created in KW&SB where large scale appointments have been made unlawfully on political considerations. The total number is about 5,000. These persons neither come to office nor do any work but get their salaries at home. They are real burden on the resources of KW&SB and till such time notice is taken of these unlawful appointments, the department may not be able to come out of its financial difficulties.
At a time when the country is faced with unemployment and soaring prices, making it impossible for the people to keep themselves alive, serving utility bills along with water bills on the people is a cruel act and deserves to be condemned, particularly in the presence of court orders, he said.
