The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has constituted sectoral committees to finalise tariff-related proposals in consultation with stakeholders for the budget 2011-12. The committees have been directed to finalize the budget proposals pertaining to their sector within a month.
An official said that the proposals would subsequently be forwarded to the Federal Board of Revenue and other concerned departments for their comments. The proposals will be consolidated and examined for discussion in the final meeting to be held during the third week of next month. The final tariff proposals will be forwarded to the concerned quarters by the end of next month.
A separate committee on auto sector has also been constituted having members of sub-committee of Auto Industry Development Committee (AIDC) on Fiscal issues and indigenization. The manufacturers, consumers and representatives of Ministry of Industries and Production, Commerce, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the tariff experts would be members of the committees.
The EDB has asked the stakeholders/concerned associations, chambers, manufacturers of engineering and allied sectors to forward their budget proposals through mail. The committees are assigned to redress the tariff and other related grievances of concerned sector affecting their competitiveness, further expansion and entrance into global market.
