Pakistan's exports to Germany increased by 23 per cent during 2010 with overall trade volume between the two countries, registering an increase of over 11 per cent. According to data issued by German Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan's exports to Germany were over $1.1 billion in 2010, which is the highest ever in a calendar year.
Total bilateral trade volume in 2010 was at $2.162 billion with the trade balance in favour of Pakistan. Germany became the fifth largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan during year 2009-10 according to the Pakistan Board of Investment. A year before, Germany was seventh biggest investor.
Pakistan actively participated in several world's biggest trade fairs held in Germany last year. Over 500 companies from Pakistan were represented in 16 exhibitions, which helped our export sector. More business representatives from Germany travelled to Pakistan in 2010, as compared to 2009, which helped to promote economic relations between the two countries.
Germany is Pakistan's largest trading partner among the EU countries. Restoration of investment guarantees by the German government for its investors in Pakistan and signing of an updated Bilateral Investment Treaty in December 2009 have encouraged German business community to expand business relations with Pakistan.-PR
