European Union president Herman Van Rompuy announced Friday via Twitter that the 17 eurozone nations had reached agreement on a pact to co-ordinate economic policy more centrally. "We have an agreement on the pact for the euro," said Van Rompuy, who was tasked with piloting through proposals put to a summit to bolster the eurozone's defences against a persistent and damaging debt crisis.
