Although a belated move, the government has started working on a New Economic Growth Strategy (NEGS) to give the country a new paradigm to replace the conventional initiatives for economic uplift of the country. Ministry of Commerce intends to formulate its recommendations in consultation with the trade and commerce representatives.
In order to consult the stakeholders and obtain their inputs to incorporate in the new proposed NEGS, a questionnaire/proforma has been circulated by Ateeq-ur-Rehman, Economic Consultant, Ministry of Commerce to be filled and returned to his office by March 19. This would facilitate Ministry of Commerce in formulating future policies in line with the aspirations of business community. The questionnaire seeks replies on: Regulatory mechanism, Legal framework, exports, imports, and facilitation.
Trade bodies have been asked whether the current income tax, banking, export, import, trading standards, rules administered by the federal and provincial governments provide adequate protection against unfair trading practices. In what areas changes/improvements are required?
