A petition before the Supreme Court has been filed at Lahore Registry for early hearing of a petition for construction of Kalabagh Dam. The application was filed by Barrister Zafarullah Khan submitting that his petition, despite relating to an important national issue, is pending in the Supreme Court since 1996 which shows the collapse of the judicial policy of Pakistan.
He further said that the government of Pakistan is still indecisive on the issue of constructing dams, owing to petty differences between provinces. Zafarullah said that Pakistan could generate the cheapest electricity, available at the rate of rupees two per unit for the countrymen whereas currently, it is being purchased at the rate of Rs12 per unit because of poor planning.
