Pakistan Peoples Party has dispelled the impression created in a section of press that a Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) member of Sindh provincial assembly Ram Singh Sodho migrated to India due to any sort of victimisation.
A PPP spokesman pointed out that Ram Singh Sodho, who is the maternal cousin of former Chief Minister, Arbab Ghulam Rahim had in-fact started his migration during the Musharraf regime and two of his sons and other family members already shifted to Sodho Camp, Bhuj in Gujarat, India in 2000.
One of Sodho's son Dilip Singh had even died in their bungalow in Sodho Camp in 2001 during the earthquake and the matter was widely reported in the local press. His other son Guman Singh Sodho was an elected member of Tharparkar district council and a construction contractor. In 2007, Guman moved to India as well, without formally resigning from the district council, he maintained.
The spokesman pointed out that media reports had stated that Sodho was seeking political asylum in India since around a decade, hence any theory created by certain elements about any threats to him is baseless and unfounded. Sodho shifted to India voluntarily and many people from Sindh have been moving to the country on their own free will. Furthermore, the MPA never complained that he was facing threats, he added. He said that PPP is the only political party in Pakistan, which has always stood for the protection and equal rights to minorities in Pakistan.-PR
