Overall collection during 2010-11 to be reviewed: Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue moot on March 9

The upcoming Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Conference would be held on March 9 (Wednesday) to review the overall collection during 2010-11 with particular focus on national strategy for broadening the tax-base to maximise revenue. Sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that the conference would be chaired by Minister of Finance Dr Abdul Hafiz Sheikh.
Besides, FBR Chairman Salman Siddiqui, his team of tax manages including Khawar Khurshi Butt would also participate in the conference. After recent high level reshuffling of senior tax officials in the Large Taxpayer Units and Regional Tax Offices, the improvement vis-a-vis enforcement and compliance would also be reviewed in the moot.
The conference would review the national targets and collection position during 2010-2011. The FBR would also resort to performance evaluation of each tax office in the field formations. The tax manages would have an update on the implementation of the short-term enforcement measure and actions taken by the field formations so far. The conference would focus on enforcing return filing of non-filers/short-filers, arrears, current demand/audit, monitoring of withholding tax in selected sectors, sales tax issues, compliance regarding corporate income tax, Public Accounts Committee matters and reduction in refund pendency particularly sales tax refund claims up to Rs 50,000.
The automation of systems and administrative issues of FBR would also be discussed in the Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Conference. On the conclusion of conference, finance minister would also address the Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue.
