MDA reluctant to provide land: Intercity Bus Terminal project in an uncertain state

Dispute between Malir Development Authority (MDA) and Land Revenue Department City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has left the completion of the much needed Intercity Bus Terminal project in an uncertain state, Business Recorder learnt on Wednesday.
Talking to this scribe the Directing Officer (DO) Muhammad Athar on behalf of the Executive Directing Officer (EDO) Transport Mirza Atique Baig, said that the MDA is reluctant to provide land for the project, arguing that the land would not be utilised for the said purpose. However he said the Land Revenue department of CDGK is striving to persuade the MDA in this regard but failed to yield fruits so far.
He further said that under the project all the busses stationed near Taj Complex, Saddar and Sohrab Goth would be shifted towards the terminal. He said that this would cease the entrance of intercity buses into the metropolis, reducing the traffic volume significantly.
Whereas he said that the Supreme Court also passed an order under which he directed for the buses stationed at Taj Complex, Saddar and Sohrab Goth to be shifted at the terminal site. He said that the project would initiate as soon as the land become available to CDGK. He further said that the project would be completed in approximately two years. He informed that the local transport system would also be connected to the Terminal in order to provide convenience to the people.
When questioned regarding the parking plazas set up by the CDGK he said that the Parking Plazas have not produced the desired results. He said that the police were to be blamed as they did not properly implement the property management plan devised by the transport department. He later informed that the Parking Plaza in Saddar is being under-utilised as only 200 to 300 vehicles are parked there everyday a meager number as compared to its total capacity of 800 vehicles.
