The participants of 12 National Security Workshop at National Defence University Islamabad including Senators, MNAs, MPAs, bureaucrats, senior army officers, industrialists, lawyers fraternity and media personnel visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) under leadership of Major General Azhar Ali Shah, DG-ISSRA, says a press release received here on Wednesday.
Chairman POF Board Lieutenant General Shujaat Zamir Dar, while briefing the delegation about the capabilities of POF, said that POF is a vital defence installation of Pakistan and mandated to meet the defence requirements of Pakistan in war and peace. He said that in the present war on terror POF has met enhanced demands of the Army in terms of arms and ammunition despite many challenges.
Chairman gave detailed briefing about POF, its development projects, welfare activities, educational and medical facilities being provided to POF employees and problems being faced by POF administration. While giving the detail of future projects in POF, he said that after a very careful study jointly with Ministry of Defence and GHQ, Tender Notices regarding BMRE Plan pertaining to up-gradation of Artillery, Mortar, Small Arms and Propellant have been issued to national newspapers and on POF web-site also.
The important point of BMRE plan is that keeping in view the current financial crunch of the country and scare resources, major part of its investment will be met by POF by utilising its own resources through export earning. The participants were taken around some selected production units where they took keen interest in the manufacturing process of POF Products. They praised the high standard of POF Products.-PR
