Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, a big time bank loan defaulter, will go down in the history of Pakistan as perhaps the most incompetent, inept, "do-nothing" prime minister of the country, a scatter-brain who cannot even speak coherently for two minutes and thrives in a 'status quo' environment!
It has been over three years since Gilani was appointed as the subservient prime minister, a pliable front man and a humble puppet of the presidency. Gilani has virtually done nothing substantive to show as his achievement and candidly speaking, has deliberately whiled away precious time by doing nothing to improve his government's governance, economy or law and order situation. All this time, almost every case of massive corruption unearthed, had its footprints, leading to the doorsteps of the Gilani's Multan household!
A seemingly frustrated, (or just a facade?) Nawaz Sharif, leader of the PML - N opposition party had given a 45-day "timeframe" as a deadline and a 10-point agenda to the PPP-led government to initiate and implement requisite measures to improve functions of the State, else get ready to bear PML-N's retaliation. The PML-N given time limit has duly expired on February 22 and yet, no progress has been made, thus far, on the points of the agenda.
For an incompetent, inefficient and clueless individual, time is of no value and significance since performance is not an objective to achieve a goal. In this context, attention is drawn to Gilani's statement that he made to a group of equally incompetent, self-serving and indifferent parliamentarians. Since Gilani's inept government has miserably failed to make any worthwhile and meaningful progress on PML-N's 10-point agenda in the given timeframe, Gilani has the audacity to declare that "Talks should not be made hostage to timeframe"! Gilani's sole objective, therefore, is to prolong inordinately the so-called process of 'reconciliation', (whatever this means?), airy-fairy consultations, while away the time and perpetuate the corrupt to the core, incompetent and clueless PPP dispensation for the next two years until the general elections.
Essentially, what Gilani and his manipulative PPP-led ruling junta is trying to hold "time hostage to talks"! Let us see if PML-N leadership is friendly or daft enough to buy Gilani's argument to extend the given timeframe, indefinitely?
