Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Rawalpindi boycotted their routine duties in protest against no increase in salaries and NAB's occupation of the girl's hostel belonging to the Rawalpindi Medical College here on Tuesday. All the house officers and postgraduates doctors of the three main hospitals took part in the protest. Except emergency departments, they boycotted all the other departments of the three biggest hospitals in the city.
Addressing the protestors, Doctor Umer Saeed and Doctor Aqeel of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hospital said that government promised time and again to raise their salaries but no practical steps have been taken so far. Doctors of District Hospital said that there is no carrier structure for the doctors. Doctors inducted in a scale also get pension in the same scale which is totally unjust. Doctors of the Holy Family Hospital urged the authorities to end occupation of NAB on the girl hostel and increase the number of doctors in all the hospitals.
The protestors blocked the Murree Raod for several hours and traffic was suspended. They chanted slogans demanding the government to increase their salaries. They said due to increase in inflation they need increased salaries to meet their livelihood expenses. They were holding play cards inscribed with slogan for increase in salaries.
