The Karachi Electric Supply Company has claimed that it has been facing unpredictable fluctuation in gas supply during the past about one week. A press release here on Sunday said that KESC has been increasing and decreasing power generation as per the quantum of gas received. As a result, the load shedding schedule has also changed time and again during the past few days.
In view of that, it has been impossible for KESC to plan a fixed schedule of electricity supply for the residential and commercial areas, the release added. On Sunday morning, it said, the gas supply to KESC was around 60 mmcf, due to which load shedding in residential and commercial areas was increased by 30 minutes. Later in the day at around 1 pm, the gas supply was increased to 80 mmcf; as a result of which additional 30 minutes which were increased in the morning, were withdrawn and load shedding was carried out as per regular schedule in the residential and commercial areas, from 3 to 4.5 hours in three cycles.
KESC faced similar gas supply situation on Saturday, due to which duration of load shedding had to be altered. The release said that 5 days ago, KESC was getting 110 mmcf gas. "In all this unpredictable gas supply scenario, industrial areas have been exempted from load shedding."
