Fourth Convocation of PGMI: 'Provision of health facilities to people top priority of CM'

Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal has said that Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken concrete measures for promotion of medical education, welfare of the doctors and providing best medical facilities to the people. While addressing the 4th Convocation of Post-Graduate Medical Institute/Lahore General Hospital, here on Saturday, he said that the doors of medical education were opened for the poor but talented students by abolishing seats of self-finance.
He said that government is providing free treatment facilities and now no one will be deprived of the treatment merely for want of money in the province. He said that there is no dearth of talent in Pakistani doctors and Post-Graduate Medical Institute is such an institution of medical education, which is spreading medical education inside the country and abroad.
He said that the revolutionary steps taken by the Principal PGMI Professor Dr Tariq Salah-ud-Din for the development of the institution, better treatment of the patients and updating the knowledge of young doctors during the last one year are commendable. Secretary Health Punjab Fawad Hassan Fawad, Principal Professor Tariq Salah-ud-Din, Chairman Board of Management Qazi Humayun Farid and VC UHS Professor Hussain Mubashar Malik also spoke on the occasion.
On this occasion, 101 doctors who completed their specialisation awarded medals and certificates. The Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal further said that provision of best health facilities to the people was the top priority of the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for which billions of rupees have been allocated. He said that the only healthy society could prosper and face the challenges of the present era. He urged upon the doctors' community to play their active role in providing health facilities equally to the people living in urban as well as rural areas.
Principal Professor Tariq Salah-ud-Din said that PGMI that was established in a rented building in 1974 has now become a leading educational institute, which is providing highly trained and qualified health experts to the other educational institutes not only in Pakistan but abroad also.
Secretary Health in his address said that besides limited resources, Punjab government spending huge resources for provision of best treatment facilities to the people. He said that besides providing free medicines in the public sector hospitals, funds were also being provided for research and other purposes. He said that government has protected future of doctors and nurses by regularising their services. He disclosed that summary would soon be sent to the Chief Minister Punjab for special salary package for the doctors and nurses.
