Islamabad Police have decided to make the 'security and vigilance committees' more effective so that the arrest of proclaimed offenders and other anti-social elements could be ascertained.
This was decided in a meeting held here on Saturday to review the last two months performance of the Saddar Zone of Islamabad Police. Dr Khurram Rasheed, Superintendent of Police presided over the meeting, which was attended by Sub Divisional Police Officer Saddar, Malik Tahir Mehmood, and Station House Officers of Margalla, Shalimar, Golra and Tarnol Police Stations.
The meeting was informed that Saddar Zone police, during the last two months, nabbed 318 persons for their involvement in different crimes. These persons include 63 proclaimed offenders, 85 alleged outlaws, and 150 suspected persons that failed to prove their identity and 20 beggars. The meeting was informed that out of the total detained, 35 were found to be drug pushers from whom one-kg heroin, 35kg charas, three-kg opium and 800 bottles of liquor were recovered.
The meeting was also informed that stolen items worth rupees 3.5 million, illegal arms including four kalashnikov assault rifles, 50 pistols, four rifles, a large number of bullets as well as 12 stolen vehicles were recovered from the possession of the detained persons. 137 cases, registered against the persons, were referred to the relevant courts.
Expressing his views, Dr Khurram said that police officials that are delaying investigation of cases and keeping them pending would be punished and reprimanded. He said that the officers should complete investigation of the cases and provide relief to the citizens by following the policy of strict merit, adding that rights of innocent persons should be protected and perpetrators of crimes of various nature booked in accordance with the law.
He observed that the primary responsibility of police is to ensure protection to the life and property of the citizens by curtailing activities of anti-social elements. He urged all police officials to work with honesty and strictly warned those involved in corrupt practices that they would not be spared. Corruption would not be tolerated in the police department and objective to make Islamabad police corruption free would be achieved at all costs, he maintained. He asked the police officials to fix timings for listening to the complaints of the citizens in their offices and provide assistance to them on merit.
The SP directed the police officials to ensure strict monitoring of sluggish and corrupt cops and inform the high ups about any involvement in any such kind of activities. "Facilitate your subordinates in performing official duties and provide them necessary things whether they are on duty at police stations or police pickets," he said.
