Special Secretary Finance Wajid Rana has emerged as potential candidate for the slot of new secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) replacing incumbent Sibtain Fazal Haleem who retires on March 3, 2011. According to sources, the government has taken decision to appoint Wajid Rana as new secretary EAD who will take charge on March 4, 2011.
Wajid Rana had replaced the most influential Special Secretary Ministry of Finance Asif Bajwa, who served in the Finance Ministry for two decades and was transferred to the Statistics Division as Secretary. Wajid Rana, currently working as special secretary finance (BPS-22) was also expected to come from Washington to replace former secretary Finance Salman Siddique.
He worked as the Economic Minister in Washington Embassy of Pakistan before his appointment as special secretary finance keeping in view his competence and grip on economic issues. Wajid Rana also did a good job in looking after the economic interests of Pakistan in Washington as the economic minister.
