Government urged to announce rehabilitation plan for Shahalam market
Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has urged the government to immediately announce rehabilitation plan for the affected traders of Shahalam market inferno. These views were expressed by the Chairman PIAF Sohail Lashari while talking to a delegation of Shahalam market businessmen, here on Thursday.
He said, "It was unfortunate that despite passage of more than half a month neither any concrete steps were taken for the rehabilitation of the affectees of Shahalam market fire nor any measures were adopted to avert any such incident in future." He urged the government immediately to compensate the fire-affected traders of Shahlam market so that they could be able to restart their businesses. He said that provincial capital had seen dozens of terrible fire incidents. In 1996 goods worth billions of rupees turned to ashes at Lahore Dry Port. In February 2004 a departmental store in Liberty Market was gutted, in February 2005 another departmental store in the same market caught fire, in February 2009 and December 2010 fire incidents took place at Hafeez Center.
