Asim Ali Qureshi, the son of Director General (DG) Oil, Ministry of Petroleum, has been appointed in Pakistan State Oil (PSO) in violation of the policy of meritocracy, well informed sources told Business Recorder.
According to documents available with Business Recorder, DG Oil Sabir Hussain who is also Member Board of Management (BoM) of PSO got his son Asim Ali Qureshi appointed in the company even though he was the lowest scorer with 17.25 percent marks in a written exam conducted by Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
Asim Ali Qureshi with 1.5 Grade Point Average (GPA), according to his result sheet in MBA, however, presented his GPA as 2.1 to PSO. "At present, candidates whose GPA ranges between 3 to 3.5 are positioned in companies," one official told this correspondent on condition of anonymity. Asim Ali Qureshi worked as a management trainee in Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) from January 2006 to June 2007 and as Traffic Warden Trainee in city Traffic Police Rawalpindi from July to December 2007. Interestingly, Asim Ali Qureshi gave his father's name as his reference.
According to interview rating sheet, in his first interview conducted on 16.8.2010, Asim Qureshi secured 14 marks out of 40 and was not recommended for the post of Management Trainee. His second interview was conducted after his father used his influence on September 6, 2010. Managing Director (MD) PSO conducted the interview and recommended him for the job with the following general comment, "DG Oil's son short listed on DG's recommendations".
