The incident of firing on a minority's lawmaker was strongly condemned in the National Assembly, as a committee of the House will probe into the matter. Various members belonging to both treasury and opposition benches while speaking on points of order strongly condemned the firing at Lal Chand, a minority's MNA belonging to ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and also demanded the government to take serious actions against those involved in the incident.
Lal Chand while speaking on a point of order lamented that albeit two days have been passed to the incident, no action so far has been taken against the culprits, adding that even neither Prime Minister nor Interior Minister contact him in this regard.
"If a sitting MNA of the ruling party can be treated and attacked such a way what to talk of common men," he asked, urging the government to take serious actions against the employees of the toll plaza and also cancel contract of the contractors of the toll plaza.
On the concerns of the members, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah assured the House that strict action would be taken against the involved persons. He also suggested that a committee of the House should be constituted to probe into the incident, adding that it was injustice with the MNA that government officials opened gunshots at a sitting lawmaker.
Speaking on the matter, Interior Minister Rahman Malik said that though it was a provincial matter, it would be ensured that 'justice has been done." Condemning the incident, Minister for Law Babar Awan also suggested that a committee should be constituted and be headed by Syed Khurshid Shah to probe into the incident.
The Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi who was chairing the House at the time, said that a committee of the House would submit a report on the incident within two days. Earlier various members including Minister for Minorities Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti, Minister for Communications Arbab Alamgir Khan, JUI-F's Laeq Ahmed Khan, PPP's Manwar Talpur and Abdul Qadir Pastel and PML-Q's Akram Masig Gill strongly condemned the incident and demanded of the government to take strict actions against the culprits.
Meanwhile, PML-N's MNA Abid Sher Ali strongly protested against the continued load shedding of natural gas to the industrial city of Faisalabad. He said that despite various promises made by the Prime Minister on floor of the House the situation remained unchanged and the load shedding was continued.
