The Lahore High Court (LHC) here Wednesday reserved its verdict in a petition challenging ban on journalists' entry into special courts and tribunals. Earlier, the court has formed a committee to resolve issue. Representatives of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists(PFUJ), Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ), court reporter association, federal and Punjab governments were included in the committee which submitted its recommendations.
The petition was filed by secretary Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) Wasim Farooq through Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate. The petitioner's counsel said ban on journalists is sheer violation of articles 19 and 19-A of the Constitution which explains that access to information is fundamental right of every citizen. He prayed to the court to issue directions to federal and provincial governments to lift ban on journalists' entrance rather facilitate them.
