Nadeem Afzal Gondal of PPP on Wednesday said in the National Assembly that if the size of the Cabinet can be reduced, Chief of Army Staff should also reduce the number of generals.
"It is right to give extension to Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday but the same thing is wrong for others. It is right to waive off loans of generals and bureaucrats but for politicians it is wrong. It is wrong if the son of Prime Minister buys a bullet-proof car but it is right if Chief Justice of Pakistan can keep a bulletproof car and his diver can go to Germany for training," he said while speaking on law and order situation of the country.
He said that religion should be separated from politics. He said that the government should register all seminaries and allocate proper funds for them besides imparting modern education to seminary students along with religious education. He said that as many as 75,000 seminary students leave seminaries every year after completing education.
He alleged that media is part of establishment and it should also have to play a positive role for reforms in the society. Sheikh Waqas Akram of PML-Q said practical steps should be taken instead of indulging in arguments and press statements adding that the rights of minorities should be protected and justices should be ensured.
While supporting the views of Nadeem Afzal Gondal, he said that the party leadership did not like those members who speak truth for the interest of the country. "Politicians are responsible for rampant corruption in the country because they do not stop their bureaucrats and police officers from carrying out wrong practices. It is of no use to criticise the army and judiciary, as the politicians should correct themselves first.
He said law and order situation is critical in all the four provinces, adding that the provincial governments should end nepotism in police department and provide justice and security to masses. He called for sincerity and commitment to address the problems faced by masses besides improving the fragile economy of the country in order to stabilise the poor law and order situation in the country.
Earlier, Minister for Privatisation Syed Naveed Qamar moved a motion in the house to discuss prevailing law and order situation in the country. PML-N chief whip Sheikh Aftab said that the law and order situation in the country needs attention of the leaders. He said that Parliamentarians should sit together to find a durable solution to the problem.
He said the government was lucky enough that it had not got a very hostile opposition otherwise things would have been different. He said that the opposition had been supporting the government on important national issues and improving law and order. MQM parliamentarian Syed Asif Hasnain said that it is the joint responsibility of both government and all political parties to address these issues together. He said economic reforms are needed to improve the economy especially agriculture sector of the country.
