Power distribution companies: Wapda workers protest against proposed privatisation

Water & Power Development Authority (Wapda) workers observed Protest Day across the country on Wednesday under the aegis of Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union against the proposed privatisation of power distribution companies.
The labour union's secretary information said that the workers took out processions in the four provinces as well as in the cities of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Sibbi, Khuzdar, Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbotabad, Bannu, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi.
In Lahore, Wapda and electricity workers took out a procession from Bakhtiar Labour Hall on Nisbat road and marched to Press Club square carrying red flags and banners in support of their demands. They raised slogans against IMF, privatisation of electricity, price hike of essential goods and feudalism. The procession was led by veteran labour leader Khurshid Ahmad and labour activists, Sajjad Hussain Shah, Malik Noor Mohammad, Muhammad Shoaib, Maqsood Ahmad and others. Khurshid Ahmad and other representatives of workers said that Pakistan's working class is struggling to make Pakistan an egalitarian society and achieve national economic self-reliance.
