Appointment of ad hoc judges in SC: SC moved against Full Court resolution

A constitutional petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the resolution passed by Full Court on February 14 for appointment of two adhoc judges in the Supreme Court. The petition filed by Watan Party in the Lahore Registry of the apex court, prayed to the court to do away with the scheme of appointing adhoc judges as envisaged through the Judicial Commission.
The resolution appears a bid to build pressure on the President to accept the adhoc appointment of the two judges. The petitioner contends if workload is a problem necessitating appointment of adhoc judges, the problem could be addressed by increasing the sanctioned strength of SC or lowering the minimum age for appointment of judges in higher judiciary. He, therefore, prayed to the court to cut down the lower age for appointment of judges in high court to 40 years from the existing 45 in order to provide the judges a longer period to serve in the superior judiciary.
