Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday warned the government that the party would not hesitate to go for long-march to get the 10-point reforms agenda implemented. Speaking at a news conference, PML-N's Secretary Information, Ahsan Iqbal said that a number of decisions including partying way with Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in Punjab would be taken in the party's meeting slated to be held on February 25, 2011.
He said that the party's leadership was closely monitoring the situation and would abide by the promises made with the people of the country at all cost. He said that albeit only two days remained in 45-day deadline of the PML-N given for the implementation of 10-piont agenda, the government did not take any step in this regard hitherto.
He warned the government of another long-march if the agenda was not implemented within the given timeframe. While referring to the statements of Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and Law Minister Babar Awan, he said that the government is telling the nation about the policy of reconciliation, while on the other its advisors and ministers have resorted to 'abusive' remarks. He also said that if a disciplinary action was not taken against Zulfiqar Mirza then it would be conceived that the recent threats given by him was pre-planned.
He also took strong acceptation to the statement of Mirza, saying that it was a serious blow on the federation and its solidarity, adding that the remarks showed PPP's frustration due to the increasing popularity of the PML-N in Sindh. He also made it clear that PML-N was not responsible for political confrontation, but held the government's poor performance as responsible for the situation.
Alleging the PPP government as 'failed regime,' Iqbal mentioned that the government, which came into rule under National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was result of the engineered elections of 2008 to give indemnity to Pervez Musharraf and his unconstitutional steps. He also termed the recent arrest warrant issued to Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto murder case as mare 'drama' to make the countrymen fool and the PPP workers as well.
He further announced that the PML-N would soon release a white paper on the three-year performance of the PPP government, saying that due to the failed economic policies the country's economy is facing an annual 500 dollars deficit. Reacting to Law Minister Babar Awan's statement, Iqbal dispelled the impression that PML-N was promoting 'horse-trading' with resurfacing the 'unification bloc' in Punjab Assembly rather added that the bloc was result of the imposition of governor rule in the province, saying it was created when governor rule was imposed in Punjab on February 5, 2009 and the group 47 MPAs announced their support to PML-N on ideological basis.
He accused PPP for unprecedented inflation and unemployment in country's 62-year history. The PML-N's leader further said that his party would continue to protect the independent judiciary, promote rule of law and good governance and free media. To a question regarding Raymond Davis case, he refused to comment on the remarks of the former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, adding that PML-N's stance was very clear that the court will decide his fate.
